MARIA CHIARA ARGIRò
“An extremely talented pianist and composer with a real vision”
Nikki Iles, UK jazz pianist and composer.
Maria Chiara Argirò is a London-based pianist, keyboard player and composer.
Born in Italy, Maria discovered her deep sense of musicality by taking up not only her now mastered instrument of piano, but also singing and percussion as she sought to build an array of musical texture and experience via collaborations with many wonderful musicians.
After gaining a BA in Jazz from Middlesex University, she immediately began touring in 2013 with the British artrock band These New Puritans for the ‘Field of Reeds’ and ‘Spitting Stars’ tour playing in Asia, USA, Mexico, Europe in festivals around the world and in venues such as The Barbican in London or The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles where they supported Bjork.
Maria is an experienced band leader, composer, arranger, session musician and teacher. She has worked with many noteworthy artists including BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards nominated singer Coco Mbassi, multi-awarded guitar player Marton Fenyvesi and Hungarian songwriter/producer Vera Jonas. With her own quintet she’s has been touring in Italy and France and playing at The EFG London Jazz Festival.
“Argirò’s band defied the chilly Saturday evening air to play a powerful set of originals, including Dream R, Every Now And Then and Fall Dance. It was so windy they had to fix written parts to music stands with clothes pegs, but Argirò’s young sidemen interpreted her carefully wrought compositions with confidence and grace. Argirò, an Italian musician who has lived in London for seven years, is a serious contender for bigger festival stages. Her debut album is due in November.” – London Jazz News on The Love Supreme Festival
