Nottingham Independent Sanctuary Commission report: launch event
Tue 21 February 2017, 18:00 – 20:30 GMT
In the wake of one of the biggest refugee crises that has hit Europe since the holocaust, the vulnerable persons resettlement scheme (VPRS) was born out of an effort to help a people in need of safe haven and has brought 130 Syrian refugees to seek sanctuary in Nottingham.
Nottingham Citizens, through its 60 community organisations, set up a commission to learn from this programme and to get decision makers to implement recommendations that will give homeless refugees somewhere to sleep, give these who can't speak English a means to learn and give refugees and asylum seekers in Nottingham the safe haven they need and deserve after seeing their homes and families torn apart.
On 21 February, Nottingham Citizens will launch the report of their Independent Sanctuary Commission looking at the challenges facing refugees and asylum-seekers and proposing practical recommendations.
Please join us to hear about the key findings from the Commission and to hear from decision makers on how they plan to act on its recommendations.
