STEEP 2019-20 NQT Early Years Induction & Mentoring Programme 


Our NQT Induction programme is tailored to meet the needs of EYFS NQTs in nursery and reception (10 Monthly half-day sessions)

The programme provides quality input to support your NQT in meeting the required Teachers’ Standards and has specific emphasis on meeting the requirements of the EYFS Statutory Framework.

These NQT Induction sessions provide an opportunity for NQTs to meet, reflect upon, and share their practice with NQTs working within different contexts. Included in the programme is a free place for your NQT at the STEEP Early Years Conference at Goldsmiths University of London, plus  discounts on further tickets. 

The programme is also suitable for those teachers new to the EYFS and can be booked as the ‘New to the EYFS Development Programme’.

The programme consists of 10 monthly half-day sessions on Tuesday afternoons from 13:30 – 16:00 as set out below.

Programme

Welcome event (17 Sept 19) : Chelwood Nursery School, Brockley SE4 2QQ, 4:30 – 5:30pm            

Autumn Term

Session 1 (15 Oct 19): The Early Years Statutory Framework – Sound foundations for high quality learning

Session 2 (19 Nov 19): Quality first teaching – inclusion through a personalised approach

Session 3 (10 Dec 19):The enabling environment: a balanced approach to child and adult initiated learning 

Spring Term

Session 4 (14 Jan 20): Autism in the Early Years   

Session 5 (11 Feb 20):Early Language Development 

Session 6 (17 Mar 20):Inspiring a love of reading – Story & Narrative 

Summer Term

Session 7 TBC: STEEP Early Years Conference – full day event

Session 8 (12 May 20):Igniting writing  

Session 9 (16 Jun 20):Meaningful maths 

Session 10 (07 July 20): Extending learning through challenge and creative questioning

NQTs from Schools in the London Borough of Lewisham will also be invited to the Lewisham NQT Welcome Event as part of this programme offer.

Programme fee:

£750 per NQT. This includes

  • half termly NQT Induction Mentor network (see below for more details)
  • a free place for your NQT at theSTEEP Early Years Conferenceat Goldsmiths University of London, PLUSa discount on further places booked
  • Your NQT will be encouraged and supported to develop a professional network with other Early Years specialist colleagues through the STEEP network across Lewisham and Greenwich and beyond in the development of their EY practice

NQT Induction Mentor network

These sessions are an opportunity for (EYFS) NQT Induction Mentors to network, problem solve, share experiences and access support from EYFS specialists. There will be six sessions, one each half term from 4-5pm at Chelwood Nursery School (unless otherwise advised).

Payment:  Payments are made on-line in advance of the event taking place. If you attend the event without having booked and paid for the place you may be turned away from the event.  It may be possible to make an online payment on arrival at the event to gain entry where places are available, but this facility cannot be guaranteed.

Timekeeping:  Prompt time keeping is essential in ensuring a professional learning environment.  Late-comers may be refused admission to the course/training event where entry may be detrimental to the learning of others.
