Event description

Description

Inspired by her current practice and research into hosiery, Enam Gbewonyo multimedia textile artist and founder of the Black British Female Artist Collective will examine how this simple garment, a staple of western women’s wardrobe has the power to marginalise, ostracise and castrate through a performance presentation.

The performance presentation focuses on the periods of the 1920s through to the 1960s and beyond and explores the very visible erasure of the black female in a market where nude equals white and its consequent effects.

This will be the first time this performance has been seen publicly.
