Beatrice Warde Memorial Lecture:
Nudity in type design + beyond -Nadine Chahine
The perception of nudity varies per culture and time. Whether we are discussing the bikini vs burkini, or the latest celebrity outfit, design has a significant role to play in this dialogue. But much as times change, a woman’s body and her romantic attachments often remains to this day the defining aspects of her life and the question is why and till when?
This talk will explore these themes guided by the famed sketches of Beatrice Warde, and will then explore the concept of nudity in type design itself and the stripping away of the body of the typeface to find the structure underneath, and how this can have implications for current and future type design.
