This two-day seminar will build upon the principles of prophetic traditions taught in the foundation year. Students will apply the terminology, classification methods, and tools of authenticity to analyse the veracity of specific hadith narrations. This module will focus on Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani’s Nukhbatul Fikr, an exposition and introduction to the science of hadith.
In addition to this, the biographies of major hadith narrators will be evaluated as well as the relative strengths and weaknesses of the collective communities of hadith scholars in the early generations of Islam.
