Nunhead American Comedy Nights

American Comedians Come to Nunhead

Sunday 7:30PM 20 May 2018
The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road London SE15 3BE

Starring Four Fabulous American Comedians:

And one more to be announced soon

AL LUBEL - New York

"Al has one of the best jokes I ever heard" - Jerry Seinfeld

"Al Lubel is a terrifically funny comedian" - David Letterman

"Unimaginable neuroses, spiralling self-reflection, towering mother issues, all your favourites … but boy does he bring it all together into one truly brilliant comedy show." - LondonIsFunny.com

Al Lubel became a lawyer to satisfy his mother and quit to become a comedian to satisfy his sadistic need to torture her. After graduating law school in Florida, Al moved to California, passed the bar exam on his first try and immediately began the practice of standup comedy.

Within a year he won the $100,000 Comedy Grand Prize on Star Search. Doing the Tonight Show was a big childhood fantasy. Al became one of the last comics to appear with Johnny Carson, going on to do six more Tonight Show appearances with Jay Leno and five appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman.

Al also played an attorney on the Blake Clark HBO Comedy Hour and has been featured in the Showtime/PBS special A Standup Life. He appeared on all seven episodes of the ESPN series, Bill Walton's Long Strange Trip.

Al's solo show, Al Alone, won the Amused Moose Award Judges Prize as the best solo show of Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013. He also was nominated for Best Performer for a Solo Show by the Barry Awards at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

MARIA SHEHATA - California

"Shehata is warm and witty and she lights up the whole room." ★★★★ Simply Stage

Uniquely open and honest hour from an accomplished comedian, definitely a show worth seeing and a performer to watch out for in the future." ★★★★ Broadway World

Maria Shehata is an award-winning American comedian quickly making a name for herself in the UK. She has a conversational delivery and no-nonsense candor that is sardonic yet playful, and has been charming audiences all over the world.

"I love Maria Shehata. She’s funny on and off stage and always has original material. Unlike Donald Trump, I am not happy that Maria Shehata no longer lives in the USA. I think she is a truly unique comedian and I miss watching her work." - Bill Burr

Maria is winner of Best Comedian at the Hollywood Festival of New Cinema, and Best Comedy at the Miami Web Fest where she was nominated for Best Actress. Maria was also shortlisted as one of the Five Best New Performers at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe by The 99 Club.

Hosted by LEWIS SCHAFFER, New Yorker and now Nunheader

"Electrifying...a bizarre cross between performance art, a swingers’ party and a papal blessing." Claire Smith, The Scotsman ★★★★★

Lewis Schaffer's 2017 Edinburgh show 'Letters From My Mother' won the 'Experience of the Fringe' Award, which is given to “the show that provides the most memorable and extraordinary experience at the Fringe, be it good, bad or plain strange."

“Schaffer is disconcertingly terrific. He is compelling, unique and most of all unpredictable.” Bruce Dessau, London Evening Standard

“An hour with Lewis Schaffer is an hilarious, cathartic, exhilaratingly appalling experience.” Kate Copstick, ITV & The Scotsman

“A bloody good laugh and unlike anything else on the comedy circuit. Go see Lewis Schaffer.” Time Out

Lewis Schaffer also co-hosts Resonance FM's Nunhead American Radio show with Lisa Moyle every Monday evening - the only radio show for Americans living in Nunhead, Southeast London.
