Description

‘Nuns Chorus’, by Sally Mulready. Directed by Molly Mulready

Set in 1950s Ireland, ‘Nun’s Chorus’ tells the story of what happens when a group of Carmelite Nuns, from an enclosed order, are forced to leave their convent for the very first time in years, to go on an holiday to Galway. The play which features Irish music, dance and songs, is sensitive, funny and deeply moving. Written by Sally Mulready, who lived from the age of four to 16, in a Convent in Dublin, the play gives us a rare glimpse into the real lives and dilemmas of nuns who played such a big role in the social, political and religious history of Ireland. ‘Nun’s Chorus’ will be performed by older Irish people, all members of The Irish Pensioners Choir and The Irish Pensioners Theatre Group. They will be joined by the superb actress and musician, Jacqueline Hynes, with musical accompaniment from Billy Faughan:
