About this event

You can help with many things, from tending the beds to watering the young trees. There's something for everyone. And if you have a family your children are more than welcome to join us too!

There's a timber framed hut, with a log burner, for getting toasty on those colder days - when social distancing allows! We also have a new composting loo so you won't get caught short.

Please check our website for details on volunteering during COVID-19. https://www.moortrees.org/volunteering/

You can choose to join us for a whole day, a morning, or an afternoon - whatever suits you best.

Restrictions apply and numbers are limited. To book a space, you can either book a ticket via this page, or contact Dave Lewis, our Tree Nursery Officer, on 07949406959 by 3pm the Monday before. Please let Dave know how long you are planning to stay for. Please also let Dave know whether you have any medical / access / additional needs we should be aware of.

We can provide hot drinks, but please bring your own snacks, lunch (if you plan on staying all day) and sun cream if it is sunny. Please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.

If you have any symptoms of Coronavirus, even a persistent cough, raised temperature or loss or change to your sense of smell or taste, please do not come!

Broadley Farm is one mile south of Diptford village which is best approached from Avonwick or Shorter Cross on the South Brent to Totnes (Old Plymouth) Road.

In the centre of Diptford drive downhill on the lane off the main route through the village between the Old Bakehouse, now a private cottage, on your left and what passes for a village ‘green’ on your right. A blue sign says ‘unsuitable for heavy lorries’. This is a long lane and over a mile down it you will pass cottages with bright green paintwork on the left and then you will reach a T junction with a sign to Broadley on the gate opposite.

Turn left then quickly next right up a short hill and the nursery is on the left at the brow of the hill.

There is parking on site. Parking is limited, so please park next to the bridge if not available at our site. Please do not park in front of the cottages or next to Broadley Farm.

The closest post code is Broadley Farm, Diptford TQ9 7NJ.

Come and join Moor Trees! We need your help, whether for a day, or as a regular volunteer. You could be collecting local seeds, caring for thousands of seedlings in our nurseries or to planting and maintaining conservation woodland.

We have two large nurseries at Broadley Farm, Diptford, near South Brent and Hunter’s Moon in Dartington. Woodland sites are scattered around Dartmoor and in the South Hams. Tree planting takes place between November and April while nursery work – potting, planting and weeding seedlings happens throughout the year. In summer we visit newly planted sites and in the autumn we collect seeds, nuts and acorns and learn various treatment methods to encourage germination.

Volunteers of all ages, abilities and cultures are welcome. We are a friendly group and volunteering with us is a wonderful opportunity to work with other enthusiastic people in beautiful settings, to get healthy exercise outdoors and to make new friends. No previous experience is needed: we explain all the tasks and teach you how to do them.

We ask you to bring a packed lunch, sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing with waterproofs if necessary. Tea, biscuits, hot drinks and tools are provided free by us.
