Event description

Description

Although health and social care services have a duty to treat people fairly and the Royal College of Nursing promotes equality of opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people, research shows that many nurses still lack confidence when engaging with LGBT+ people in their care and have not received sufficient training in the needs of this marginalised and potentially vulnerable population.

All health and social care organisations have a responsibility under the Public Sector Equality Duty to eliminate discrimination towards and advance equality for LGBT+ people. But what does this mean in practice? This half-day course led by LGBT+ nurses increases understanding of the additional health and social care needs of older LGBT+ people and equips staff with the additional knowledge, skills and confidence to better meet the needs of LGBT+ patients in their care.
