Nursing on the Veldt: The Boer War and Military Nursing
Thu 25 May 2017, 17:30 – 19:00 BST
The Boer War was the first major British conflict in which nurses in large numbers were deployed. At the end of the war in 1902 a new nursing service was created, the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS).
Find out from Keiron and Alison Spires who these nurses were, why they volunteered for South Africa, and how they helped to shape the nursing service that worked to good effect in WW1.
