What is Womb Yoga?
Womb yoga is a modern movement to re-awaken ancient wisdom within the female body. This empowers us to cultivate an adaptable & responsive yoga practice that honours the hormonal shifts of womanhood, not only on a monthly basis but also in the context of our whole life-cycle and all the sacred phases of it! Hatha Yoga derives from a lineage of male interpretation of the body and it's experiences. Womb Yoga offers Women a deeply enriching, female-centred approach to Yoga practice for womens' bodies.
Focused around the root & sacral chakra, Womb Yoga includes sacred ceremonial movement flows, breathwork, nidra, mantra, restorative yoga, sound & deep relaxation. ✨
There are nine core practices to unlock power and honour the feminine life-force energy – known as the ‘Shakti Bandhas’. The Shakti energy’s primary form of expression is to be in flow & to move, yet in sitting in cars, office chairs, gritting our teeth & ‘holding it all together’ means that 21st century women often feel emotionally stuck or brittle and the energy in the hips and pelvis feels stuck, rigid & even blocked. The Womb Yoga practices, quite literally, open up the womb space, the pelvis and the hips & get the blood and energy flowing to this area so that our creative sap can rise, we can get unstuck & feel 'in flow' with life and in harmony with our bodies.
It all begins by honouring your womb, with softer and sensitive practices and, by exploring the sequences with gentleness, you will cultivate a deeper awareness of your female energy. Each practice involves either flexing and extending the spine or rotating the upper body separately from the lower body, awakening dormant energy that can then travel upwards to connect and open your heart and further chakras upwards along your spine.
