“Nurturing the Strengths of the 'Vulnerable Brain”
By Jo Stockdale: Lead Trainer and Consultant with the ‘Well Within Reach’ team ('Child Learning & Development Advisory Centre’).
For all sorts of reasons, many children & young people can be considered ‘vulnerable’. Some may not have yet developed brains which are well equipped to learn, adapt, make decisions and function well in general, and for others, their 'neurodiversity' may mean that their brains may always have some kind of compromise.
This talk throws light on the neurological underpinnings of some of these vulnerabilities i.e. weak sensory processing, low self-esteem, ASD, stress, etc. helping you to decode some of the associated issues such as difficulties with learning, withdrawal, poor resilience or defeatist attitudes. However, even 'vulnerable' brains have a great deal of inherent strength and this session will explore what you can do, even under adverse circumstances, to identify, nurture and 'strengthen the strengths' of these children & young people.
