Throughout September, Westminster City Council and Portman Estate with Root And Erect are hosting a series of creative activations at Nutford Place, Edgware Road - a programme designed to connect with the local community and celebrate the area’s rich heritage.
As part of Designing the Magic Carpet events happening at Nutford Place Local Living Room in September, join us for an outdoor pattern drawing workshop with artist and School of Traditional arts graduate Lacey Ferri.
Participants will learn the basics of pattern drawing using a compass and a ruler. Lacey will show a step-by-step demonstration of how to make the seed of creation expansion. This is to demonstrate precision with a compass and to introduce the concept of laying a framework with which to build a pattern.
After this workshop, participants are invited to join us in drawing a collaborative pattern drawing on the paving using chalk. We will be painting these patterns in with temporary chalk paint.
After this workshop, participants are invited to join us in making a collaborative carpet for the paving at Nutford Place.
This is a 12+ event. No prior experience is required and all materials will be provided.

Lacey’s pattern designs will also feature on floor painted murals in Nutford Place in collaboration with mural artist Good Night Vienna’s Nick Blaney.
