Nutrition Essentials for Early Years, with registered Nutritionist and Nutritional Therapist Catherine Jeans (DipION mBANT CNHC mIFM).

Join experienced family nutritional therapist Catherine Jeans for a 1-hour webinar with 30 minutes Q&A, helping you to integrate the new EYFS Nutritional Guidance into your setting.

In this informative webinar, packed with practical guidance, Catherine will take you through:

  • Why good nutrition is important from a young age. She’ll discuss the links with healthy growth, brain development and prevention of illness later in life.
  • Practical guidance on getting the right balance and portion sizes of protein, fibre, carbohydrates and healthy fats.
  • How to encourage children to eat 5-a-day and why this is important.
  • Practical tips on how to boost the nutritional value of meals that you provide.
  • Communicating with families in a non-judgmental, supportive way.

About the EYFS Nutrition Guidance

This guidance is for early years providers in England who are caring for early years children aged 0 to 5 years.

It supports providers in meeting the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework requirement ‘Where children are provided with meals, snacks and drinks, these must be healthy, balanced and nutritious’.

From September 2025, the EYFS statutory framework will include a safeguarding and welfare requirement that asks providers to follow this nutrition guidance unless there is good reason not to.

Frequently asked questions

Is this event free?

Yes! All of the HEART Midlands Early Years Stronger Practice Hub activities are funded by the Department for Education (DfE).

Who can attend?

The HEART Midlands Early Years Stronger Practice Hub is funded to offer activity to early years providers/practitioners based in Birmingham, Coventry, Herefordshire, Solihull, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

What if I work outside of your hub areas?

If you are outside these areas but work in the early years sector and would like to attend, then of course we would love to see you! However, we will prioritise places for practitioners within our area if numbers are limited.

Why can't I book a place?

It might be full! We add a waiting list to all of our bookable activities and you might be offered a place if someone else's circumstances change and they can no longer attend. We also review waiting lists and will endeavour to offer the activity at a future date if there is a lot of interest.

What happens if I can no longer attend the event?

If your circumstances change, PLEASE sign back in to Eventbrite and cancel your place to release it to someone else on the waiting list.
