The scheme focuses on helping people in North Wales to improve skills, achive outdoor qualifications, and gain work in the outdoors. The only cost is the price of the activities (£5)


Rock Climbing

  • Meeting at 09:15am - returning to centre at 17:00pm
  • Where: Plas Menai Outdoor Centre, reception - This is where the office is based, Arwel will meet you there.
  • Additionally: We can provide all the relevant kit for each course and minibus transport from Arete Outdoor Centre.
  • Spaces available: 6 people

(Induction, Intermediate, and Advanced levels) However, you must be somewhat confident in your climbing skills / at height

We’ll get an idea of the group ability and plan the day accordingly to ability. Those who are newer to climbing may be assisted by those who need the experience of leading and isntructring others.

Throughout the course common problems that occur will be addressed both on safety and following routes. We will also introduce you to basic rescues and common problems at the crag.

Newer climbers will learn:

  • Roped climbing and bouldering, coaching movement skills
  • Learn how to manage the rope through tying in and belaying
  • Be introduced to longer multi-pitch climbs


Intermediate climbers will learn:

  • move into Leading; placing nuts, cams and hexes, using natural anchors and tying to belays. Before you’re ready to lead we have many different methods to learning the skills from setting up your own top ropes, building your own belays on multi pitch routes, placing gear on second and more traditional static sessions. If your feeling confident, then our aim is to put you on the sharp end. This will be with an instructor on a rope close at hand, to help you along the way.

Advanced climbers will learn:

  • Experience leading / instructing (with an Instructor Supervising)
