Event description

Description

Many of the scientific advances making headlines these days are in the field of biotechnology. The exploitation of life processes to create products for human benefit is at the forefront of many exciting advancements which may well lead to profound changes in various aspects of our life, from agriculture and food production to industrial processes and – last, not least – medicine.

Biotechnology encompasses several highly technical scientific and engineering disciplines, each with its own jargon. This course, aimed specifically at translators and interpreters, will provide insight into the work done in this interesting field and explain the main concepts and English terminology.

Attend our course and learn about enzymes, cells and organisms and their use in technical applications, aimed at devising new and more efficient processes for producing chemical compounds and diagnostic tools.

The fee also includes the comprehensive “Biotechnology – A background guide” by Dr Ed Zanders (204 pages) which contains very useful material for future reference and can be downloaded before the event. It is highly recommended to study the Guide before the event as you will have the opportunity to put any questions you may have to Dr Ed Zanders.

Dr Ed Zanders has a PhD in biochemistry and worked as a senior scientist and research manager for Glaxo. In 2004, he founded PharmaGuide Ltd, a company dedicated to training and consultancy for scientists and non-scientists working for the drug discovery industry. He also runs courses and webinars for technical translators and interpreters and comes highly recommended by fellow translators!
