NYMAZ will be holding its annual Early Years Music Network Conference on Tuesday 15 March 2016. Open to all those using music with 0-5 year olds, from EY practitioners, to childminders, to freelance musicians and music session leaders... Anybody making music with Early Years children.
Keynote: Dr Susan Young, specialist in early childhood music
'Playing with Music'
This presentation will have two main themes: musical play and contemporary musical childhoods. Dr Young will show some examples of musical play with voices and with instruments, explain why she thnks it is valuable and suggest how to provide for, foster and extend musical play. Dr Young will argue that changes in society with increased disparity of incomes, diversity and new technologies, are changing the nature of musical childhoods and ask how we should respond to those changes in practice.

Lucinda Geoghegan, National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCoS)
Watch Lucinda lead a live session with EY children via video link, and hear her practice explained in a presentation;
Professor Adam Ockelford, University of Roehampton
An introctution to using the Sounds of Intent progression framework in Early Years settings. Prof. Ockelford was a key member of the team that developed the framework at the University of Roehampton;
Liz McDougal, Early Year Advisory Teacher (SEN) at North Yorkshire County Council
A practical workshop on musical interaction for children with additional needs;
Barbro Edwards, Kindergarten Teacher at Botton Village Steiner School
Explore how music and physicality interact in this practical workshop demonstrating a range of repertoire;
Claire Stringer and Chris Murray
Two artists will be creating ‘visual minutes’ throughout the day, capturing a wonderful record of the different presentations and workshops that can be kept and shared beyond the conference.
