O-Late! Colours of Spain

Welcome to O-Late! Colours of Spain, a specially curated evening inspired by the exhibition El Greco to Goya – Spanish Masterpieces from The Bowes Museum.

Escape the London drizzle and enter a world of sunshine and sangria, where you can enjoy talks, music, art workshops and live performances, all designed to conjure up the vibrancy and colour of Spain.

Please note the start times of scheduled events and feel free to sample everything or just relax in our splendid glass-ceilinged courtyard bar.


PERFORMANCES

Lady Olé

Courtyard, Ground Floor

6.30pm – 7.30pm, 8pm – 10.30pm

Lady Olé takes over our courtyard space for the night and will be DJing an eclectic mix of music celebrating all things bizarro, kitsch, queer, and dance in the Spanish language.

Escuela de Baile

Courtyard, Ground Floor

7.30pm – 8pm

Join professional musicians, dancers and singers from Escuela de Baile, the largest flamenco school in the UK, for this very special flamenco performance.

The Cloakroom Attendant

The Study, Frist Floor

7pm and 8.30pm (run time approx. 40 minutes)

The cloakroom attendant of a national museum invites the audience on a journey to the secrets of her profession: the Study of Human Nature. A witty and poetic one-woman show, written and performed by Dimitra Barla.

The Curator and the Composer (with special musical guest)

Great Gallery, First Floor

Join Director of the Wallace Collection, Xavier Bray and special musical guest as they explore some our Spanish paintings through discussion and music.

WORKSHOPS

Spanish Wine tasting

Mary Weston Studio, Lower Ground Floor

Clueless about Cava? Tempted by Tempranillo? Shy about sherry? Then come and join Bodega Soul for an informal tour of Spain, taking in some of its major grapes and styles, as well as a few lesser-known gems. Limited to 24 people per workshop. Collect your free ticket from the Mary Weston Studio. Tickets allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Life Drawing

Meeting Room, Lower Ground Floor,

Join Dan Whiteson for a life drawing session themed around our El Greco to Goya: Spanish Masterpieces for The Bowes Museum exhibition. Limited to 25 people per workshop. Collect your free ticket from the Meeting Room. Tickets allocated on a first come, first served basis.

FAN-tastic!

Courtyard, Ground Floor

6.30pm -9.30pm

While the courtyard heats up, cool down and grab some pencils and felt-tips and decorate your own Spanish Fan. Illustrator Luisa Rivera will be on hand to show you some tricks and techniques. A bottle of Spanish wine will be awarded to the most creative fan at the end of the night.

Join Curatorial Assistant Isabelle Kent as she examines some of the remarkable paintings by these two giants of Spanish painting held in the Wallace Collection.
