Event description

Description

This session focuses on Oban and Lorn, Mull, Iona, Coll and Tiree. However, if you are from or work in other areas feel free to attend or join our other sessions in Dunoon, Tarbet and Helensburgh.

A two year project to develop Argyll and the Isles' already vibrant cultural ecology. Working with people in culture, heritage and arts to grow genuine creative opportunities and establish greater sustainability.

We want to reveal what is truly authentic about Cultural Argyll and the Isles, and communicate it in a way that resonates with people who live and work here, as well as appealing to people outside of the region to draw them into what you have to offer.

The great thing is, it already exists. It’s inherent in the people, places, stories, history and creativity that resides here. All we need to do is ‘release’ it into something that people can appreciate and understand, a bit like Michelangelo, who said of his sculpting:

“Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to release it.”

We will be running workshops with people who live and work across Argyll and the Isles to try and capture its essence, exploring the different facets of place and culture that co-exist to create a rich tapestry of associations that make Cultural Argyll and the Isles what it is … and what it could become.

Lisa Baxter is an expert who has an impressive list of international cultural projects under her belt, all aimed at increasing audiences and their engagement with a particular cultural offer. Previous projects include work with regional councils, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts, Imperial War Museum North and Arts Centre Melbourne. On behalf of CHArts, Lisa is working with icecream architecture to discover your views on the future of the cultural sector in Argyll and how we can help you achieve your collective potential.

Meet Lisa with icecream architecture and have your say!

Calls to Action

£500.00 Collaborative Project

To kickstart this work we will also be offering each hub region a £500.00 mini budget to do something that resonates with the sentiments of the session to be spent before the end of January on a collaborative project.

Join Your Hub and Define How It Will Work

Join your local hub and agree how often you will meet, what you would like to achieve together, tools that CHARTS could support you with and training that might be helpful.

Put Your Hand Up

Do you have specific skills that you think could help promote your hub and what is happening in your region, perhaps you are hyper organised and can take minutes, attend lots of events and can get people involved or social media. Please put your hand up and make yourself known if you can support in any way.
