OC Screening & Referral Tool

Do you know how to talk to young people about Drugs and Alcohol?

• Young People in Haringey have helped Insight Platform and Public Health design a drug screening tool for frontline services called "Our Conversation". This course will provide local drug awareness training and demonstrate how professionals can identify young people whose substance use may be putting them at risk and provide the tools to have the conversation and make appropriate referrals.

Course aim:

• To identify young people whose substance use may be putting them at risk and offer evidence-based advice and signposting to reduce risk and the impact of substances.
• To feel confident in screening families using Alcohol Audit C tool.

Who should attend:

• Social Workers, Leaving Care Personal Advisors, School Nurses, Pastoral Staff, Youth Workers, Community Police Officers, Sexual Health Clinic Staff, Youth Justice Staff, Family Support Workers, Outreach Workers, Early Help Staff, Young People's Supported Housing Organisations, Generic Counselling Services for Young People, A&E staff etc.

Learning outcomes:

• Raise awareness of substance use among young people.
• Spot the signs and symptoms, feel confident using screening tools.
• Understand when to intervene, and how to have the conversation with different groups of young people.
• Understand professional responsibilities.
• Give simple brief advice to reduce harm.
• Understand how to use and embed the new tool.
• Understand how to use the alcohol audit C tool.
