Event description

Description

You are cordially invited to attend this mini-symposium in Leiden, where you can engage in a conversation on current developments in Library Linked Data with OCLC Research and its network partners.

At the core of the conversation lies questions on how linked data is meeting interoperability challenges in the online information environment. For example:

  • What are emerging practices and ways of working?
  • How is the linked data ecosystem evolving?
  • How are libraries redesigning and reconceiving their data for shareability?
  • What are practical needs for large scale linking of data across different silos, collections and domains (research, heritage, creative industries)?
  • How is working in a LOD-environment different from regular library cataloguing workflows?
  • How can libraries get value from consuming external LOD sources?
  • How can this help relieve otherwise unsustainable workflows?

Together, we will share work and practical experiences with linked data, exchange real world examples and use cases and explore pragmatic ways forward.

This symposium will be of interest to library metadata practitioners and linked data experts working in the library, cultural heritage and digital humanities. We look forward to a lively conversation!

Karen Smith-Yoshimura, Shenghui Wang and Titia van der Werf from OCLC Research will be hosting the discussions.

Organiser OCLC

Organiser of OCLC Research mini-symposium on Linked Data

OCLC is a nonprofit global library cooperative providing shared technology services, original research and community programs so that libraries can better fuel learning, research and innovation. Through OCLC, member libraries cooperatively produce and maintain WorldCat, the most comprehensive global network of data about library collections and services. Libraries gain efficiencies through OCLC's WorldShare, a complete set of library management applications and services built on an open, cloud-based platform. It is through collaboration and sharing of the world’s collected knowledge that libraries can help people find answers they need to solve problems. Together as OCLC, member libraries, staff and partners make breakthroughs possible.
