Event description

Description

Children aged 5-10 are invited (can attend if 4 and already at a school settign but email gemma.davis@sse.com for a separate booking form) to come and learn about the traditional Mexican Festival 'Day of the Dead'. It is not a sad festival but a time to honour the dead and remember family members. Children will learn about the many traditions of the festival and culture and partake in many traditional craft activities. Some of the time will be spent outdoors.

I appreciate that if a child has recently lost a family member they may find it too upsetting to attend this educational day. However, many children may really benefit from having the chance to talk about fond memories of their loved ones at some point during the day.

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

The ideal age is 5-10 years old. Some of the activities maybe too young for 10+. If your child is only 4 but attends a school setting please email gemma.davis@sse.com as you will require a separate booking form.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Drop off is at 9:30am and collection is at 3:00pm. All children will need to be dropped off in the coach layby and then parents will need to park and walk over to the Education Centre each day to sign in their child/ren, this should take place no earlier than 9:20am. You will be emailed a medical form to fill in prior to the event which will need the following information-

  • Date of birth

  • Next of kin and contact number

  • Known allergies

  • Any medical info we should be aware of and details of medication

Please drive onto site (WA5 2UT) at 10mph and pull into the layby on the left hand side where a member of staff in high vis will be waiting to great your child and you will then be shown where to park. Please follow site rules such as reverse parking, following yellow walkways as adhering to these rules allows the summer camp to continue each year.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

Your child should ideally leave any expensive items at home as we do not take any responsibility for loss of items. If your child likes to take photos they could bring a cheap disposible camera with them. Games consoles are actively encouraged to remain at home! There is nothing to purchase and no vending machine so the children do not need any money other than the suggested donation. They should:

  • Wear clothes that can get mud/glue/paint on them

  • Packed lunch, snack and refillable water bottle

  • Waterproof jacket

  • Wellies/sensible outdoor shoes

  • Any medication clearly labelled and handed into G.Davis.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

gemma.davis@sse.com and 01514795795/5710. In an emergency please call 07508275850.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

No but i appreciate that plans change so please get in touch as soon as possible if you realise that your child can no longer attend. There are limited numbers for all of the activity days and places are allocated on a first come basis, I do not hold places anymore and bookings can only be done via booking on via the Eventbrite system. This allows me to keep you informed about the dates you have booked. If your child can not attend the event that you have booked for them please let me know as soon as possible so that another child can take their place and there is always a waiting list.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Ideally yes. You will need to supply your booking name.

What if my child breaks the rules/boundaries ?

Behaviour tends to be excellent during the camps. However, if any child is witnessed bullying another child they will be spoken to and the behaviour will be addressed and dealt with using behaviour management techniques similar to that used in primary schools. However, if a child continues to cause us concern after having been giving the time to rectify their behaviour I will need to call parents in order to discuss the possibility of collecting the child.
