Animal Management

Explore what it is like to study Animal Management and work in the animal industry. You will find out the relevance of science in animal careers and also develop some practical vet nursing skills.

Time: 9.30 – 15.00

Civil Engineering

Have you ever wondered how Bridges are built, skyscrapers are designed or how the built environment impacts on our everyday lives? On our ‘have a go activities’ you will: explore digital surveying equipment, experiment with construction materials in our Lab and use our 3D design software. This course is a great introduction to the world of Civil Engineering at Weston College. Sturdy footwear recommended.

Computing and IT – Lego Robot Wars

Warm up by having a go at building a remote control Lego robot to compete in a drag race. Once you’ve got the basics, modify your designs and build a battle ready robot to compete in a King of the Ring style tournament. Make your robot sturdy, secure but ready to attack in the last man standing battle.

Computing and IT: Website Development

The phenomenon of parallax to create a scrolling web page experience has taken modern website development to new heights. Web designers are constantly coming up with new ideas to make their websites more appealing to users through engaging visuals and functionality. In this workshop you will learn how to create a basic parallax webpage and build an impressive visual page.

Early Years: Early Years and Education

Find out about how we help children learn in schools and nurseries in the Early Years Foundation Stage. This workshop will involve participating in practical learning activities such as painting and playdough and through your own exploration you will gain insights into the world of Educating children.

Early Years: Outdoor Learning

Learn about the value of learning ‘outside the classroom’ What is a Forest School? You will be going outside for this workshop (weather permitting) and using natural materials to investigate how and why the outdoors is so important for children’s holistic development.

Engineering

From metal fabrication and electronics to aeroplanes and rockets, engineering is one of the fastest growing industries in the UK. You will explore the many routes of engineering, from manufacturing to composites. You will practice the skills of fabrication, production and design, including computer aided design and 3D printing.

Make-up, Hair & Special Effects for Media

Do you have a passion for makeup or special effects? If so then join us and develop your creative skills in special effects and character makeup for media and theatre. You will be given an introduction into water colour makeup and special effects techniques, working with industry specialists to test products and create characters and realistic injuries.

Motor Vehicle

This is a practical ‘have a go Garage workshop session’ where you will: Take part in the ‘F1 Pit stop’ challenge, Repair mechanical faults, Learn basic vehicle service checks, Explore green Car Technology This course is a great introduction to the world of Automotive studies at Weston College. Sturdy footwear recommended.

Music

In this exciting music workshop you will experience the music industry by working in a live band to create their own song. You will explore a variety of song writing techniques and take part in an effective rehearsal which will end in a live performance. The second session of the day will allow you to get hands on using industry standard sequencing software (Logic Pro X). The workshop will provide an exciting opportunity for you to engage with Logic Pro X in order to sequence and compose music and sound for moving image. You will work with a variety of loops, software instruments and a library of sound effects in order to realise their creative ideas.

Performing Arts

Workshop will include a variety of theatre acting and dance skills used in Musical Theatre and Performing Arts. Whether you have a vast history of theatre training, or if you are a total beginner, as long as you have passion for the arts and are interested in pursuing a career in theatre, come and join us for a fun, active and creative workshop. You will learn new skills in acting, dance, movement, physical theatre and create a short performance piece. You will be taught be professionals who have trained and worked extensively in the professional industry, delivering a high quality and fun filled day!

Coaching and analysis workshops:

Experience using our first class analysis equipment to gain an understanding of how to gain a coaching edge.
