Event description

Description

This concert seeks to explore the October Revolution in Russia as a source of creative inspiration for artists. Composers in the post-revolutionary period were challenged to construct a new innovative musical language with which to depict and promote the radical new social order. A celebration of this dynamic new musical landscape, this concert will transport the audience from the music of Imperial Russia, featuring the work of Rachmaninoff and Glazunov, to the music of the Soviet avant-garde of Mosolov and Roslavets and the searing mid-century works of Shostakovich and Prokofiev, ultimately arriving at the jazz-inflected work of Kapustin. The repertoire will be performed on piano, cello and viola by current and former students of Trinity Laban Conservatoire, The Royal Academy of Music, The Royal College of Music and the University of Oxford, who are all in some way associated with The Charterhouse.
