About this event

Family & Education • Education

This workshop aims to help participants understand the power of adopting use of manipulatives within a Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, so that children’s learning is accessible and provides opportunities for them to think deeply. Ways of encouraging pupils to understand mathematical concepts and reason (including when problem solving) will be explored. The following manipulatives will feature: Numicon, place value counters, dienes, the ten frame, Cuisenaire rods and double-sided counters.

Please note that a small number of slides will connect back to ideas shared during open ODST training sessions that have taken place throughout the previous three academic years:

- 'Developing children's conceptual understanding of fractions’ – December 2022

- 'Developing the learning and teaching of multiplication and division’ – November 2023

- ‘Developing use of manipulatives in Key Stage 2’ – October 2024

- ‘Developing children’s conceptual understanding of fractions’ – March 2025

N.B. This is an interactive session all participants must have a working cameras and microphones in order to actively participate.

Please note this session is for teachers in ODST schools only.
