Description

Join us at Blackwell's Edinburgh as Laura Purcell and Stacey Halls talk about their latest beautiful, dark and chilling books, set in a bygone time: The Corset and The Familiars.

The Corset tells the tale of Dorothea and Ruth: a charitable prison visitor and a prisoner who attributes her crimes to the supernatural. Can Ruth be trusted? Is she mad? A murderer?

In The Familiars, the infamous Pendle witch trials are played out from the perspective of Fleetwood, a young woman desperate for a child. Can she save her midwife? Can she avoid suspicion herself?

Laura Purcell is a former bookseller who lives in Colchester. Her novel, The Silent Companions won the WHSmith Thumping Good Read Award 2018 and featured in the Zoe Ball and Radio 2 Book Clubs. The Corset was published in September to rave reviews.

Stacey Halls grew up in Lancashire with a fascination for the Pendle witches. She was Media Editor at The Bookseller, Books Editor at Stylist.co.uk, and is now Deputy Chief Sub Editor of Fabulous magazine. The Familiars, out in February, is her first novel.
