Event description

Description

Gallery 142

Gallery 142 is delighted to present a rich and varied selection of works by local Artist’s and Makers including textiles, photography, print, drawing, paintings and jewellery. Artists include Emma Bradbury, Geoff Sawers, Steve Bumphrey, Nigel Bish, Tim Jackson and Trudie Middleton.

The exhibition will take place in a town house, which in 1865 was home to Reading’s ‘Association for the sale of work by Ladies of limited means’. An organisation run by a Mrs Abbott, which sold fine needlework made by gentlewomen- the exhibition becoming a fitting echo of the house's past association.

Tea, coffee and homemade cakes will be served in the basement café.

Profile of Artists Exhibiting at Gallery 142

Nigel Bish will be exhibiting a collection of jewellery pieces. Nigel has returned to jewellery making from a 25-year hiatus and is excited by the formal potential it offers. Current pieces explore a dialogue between humanity, nature, and the history of adornment.

Emma Bradbury specialises in blending knitting with a printing process. Emma combines her colourful creativity and love of wool to produce hand painted textiles for fashion interiors

Geoff Sawers Artist and Poet, draws inspiration from his love of nature and his home town of Reading. Geoff will be exhibiting a series of pen and ink studies of local trees, which illustrated his recently published collaboration with Adrian Lawson; ‘The Shady Side of Town: Reading’s Trees’ (Two Rivers Press).

The focus of Steve Bumphrey’s work is travel photography, though recent pieces have explored a more abstract direction. Steve has exhibited widely, including the 2016 Royal Academy Summer exhibition and is a regular contributor to Getty Images.

Trudie Middleton is a Printed Textile and Surface Pattern designer for the commercial Fashion and Interiors industry and will be exhibiting a personal collection of paper prints and digitally printed Summer scarves.
