About this event
Escape to the remote Knoydart peninsula with Girls on Hills; a truly stunning and unspoiled corner of Scotland! Situated on the far west coast, Knoydart is known as ‘Britain’s Last Wilderness’ and is isolated from the UK road network (only accessible only by boat or by foot!) During our visit, we'll be staying in luxury off-grid accommodation at Doune Bay Lodge, complete with its own beach and firepit! Three nights accommodation, boat transfer and shuttles are included in the ticket price.
The Girls on Hills 'Off-grid Social' weekend will involve a mix of guided and self-guided activities:
- Trail running
- Wild dipping/wild swimming
- Low-level walks
- Hill walking/running
- Gin and coffee tasting (courtesy of Gin Bothy and Coffee Knoydart)
- Eating, drinking and sightseeing, including a trip to community-owned inn The Old Forge, the most western pub on the UK mainland.
Our Off-grid Social weekend is about people and place, not pace! Activities will be relaxed and sociable to ensure that nobody gets left behind. It is also an exclusive event from Girls on Hills, which will not be available in 2026 (as Doune Bay Lodge will then be under new management). Join us for a solo-friendly, one-off celebration in an unmissable location!
What to expect?
Where routes are guided, sessions will be lead by qualified Summer Mountain Leaders and/or certified Open Water Swim Coach as required. We will also provide a number of route-cards and GPX files for easier recommended coastal walks/runs (self-guided), as well as sightseeing suggestions. All hill-walking/fell-running itineraries will be guided. Attendees should feel free to mix-and-match as well as to 'go their own way' or 'opt out altogether' in favour of some quiet relaxation! We encourage you to treat this event as a foundation for meeting likeminded individuals, exploring the area or for simply eating with others in the evenings. Our accommodation is self-catering but there is also the inn and a fabulous restaurant nearby. Our events aim to support the local community/economy wherever possible and provide an authentic and immersive experience.
We have your logistics covered:
- Boat transfer from Mallaig (return)
- Three-night stay at luxury Doune Lodge (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
- 3 days of professionally guided acitivities (optional) and self-guided activity rescources
Upon booking you will receive a booking confirmation email outlining everything you need to know about your trip, including a kit list.
If you need to pay by deposit/instalments, drop us an email at info@girlsonhills.com and we can arrange this for you.
Please note that the final itinerary of acitvities will depend on the weather/conditions, and will be at the guides' discretion. Options will be available to suit the weather and group.
Where will we stay?
We will be staying at Doune Bay Lodge (photos below), with it's lovely beachfront location and incredible views. The lodge has twin rooms, all ensuite, with shared cooking facilities and a lovely open communical area to spend time meeting others. If ever there was a way to really 'get away from it all' then this is it! The lodge is totally off-grid and the power is from solar, a small hydro and battery inverter system. If ever there was a way to really 'get away from it all' then this is it!
The magic of this weekend is time spent exploring an untamed and remote landscape, while spending time with likeminded souls! We can't wait to share Knoydart with you.
