This fun and highly engaging two-day in-person course aims to help youth workers and/or managers responsible for practical youth work activities, off-site trips and visits, to make these experiences safer for young people, and the staff supporting them. This course will utilise a range of practical tasks and engaging workshops designed to highlight the risk issues you might encounter in a range of youth programmes, off-site activities and residential settings, this is more than the normal classroom-based training!

Accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (RGS), the original course was designed in response to concerns about safety in off-site activities. Pharos has enhanced the standard syllabus to make it specific for the youth sector, including use of practical ‘hands-on’ risk assessments. It is far from a normal ‘health and safety’ training course and although the course covers the core H&S legislation, it explores how these can enable rather than block good quality youth work.

The course brings the legislation to life by providing an opportunity for attendees to explore its application in practical, highly relevant situations. It aims to equip attendees with the ability to apply knowledge, understanding and problem solving skills in a range of contexts.

The training fully complements the resources on the NYA Safeguarding and Risk Management Hub here.

Appropriate for those working in a range of different situations where they are responsible for taking children/young people/adults out of their everyday environments.

Delivered by NYA’s risk management partners, Pharos Response; the crisis management experts who know only too well what happens when risks aren’t managed effectively.

Lunch, refreshments and certificates included. Non-residential.
