About this event
'Offcuts' - a unique art installation, by Olly Fathers.
At Morgan, we believe that Britain is at the forefront of the art and design movement. We celebrate this talent through a series of installations featuring artists we admire. Previously, we have showcased artists: Remi Rough, Mark McClure, Expanded Eye, David Shillinglaw and Charlie Oscar Patterson. We are delighted to invite Olly as our next artist collaboration.
The exhibition presents a large scale installation made up of six pieces, alongside a selection of recent artworks.
Olly Fathers is a multi-media artist working in mediums ranging from painting & sculpture to murals and collage. Over the past few years, he has been making artwork with a wide variety of wood veneers using marquetry techniques.
His work explores the visual language between simple forms and materials, working shapes into playful harmonies with one another to create this tranquil balance.
As part of the nature of his making process there is a wide range of wood veneer offcuts created. Rather than disregarded these, the forms are embraced and arranged in compositions that celebrate their beauty in their own right.
The series of works making up the display, entitled ‘Offcuts’, are an exploration of a single set of wood offcuts, arranged in multiple compositions. Each work is cut by hand and with each work made, a new set of offcuts are created. The series celebrates this process of constant rotation and encourages the viewer to look closer at these previously disregarded forms.
