This course will give senior leaders and SENCos in mainstream primary and secondary schools a better understanding of Ofsted’s new national expectations with regard to outcomes for disabled pupils, those with special educational needs and those with mental health needs.
There will be an update for SENCos and senior leaders on the most recent requirements for the provision for disabled pupils and those with special educational needs in mainstream schools. In line with the revised code of practice, the role of the SENCo will be clarified along with ways to manage and develop appropriate training programmes to equip teaching and support staff.
Delegates will learn about:
- supportive classroom environments for all pupils
- developing roles in leading and managing provision and supporting staff
- the role of the SENCo and senior leaders in monitoring and supporting provision and impact/outcomes for pupils’ achievement, personal development, behaviour and welfare
- measuring progress and achievement for pupils including those with profound needs
- the difference between underperformance and special educational needs
- additional or different arrangements that lead to an improvement in progress
- guidance on restraint
- developing effective links with the governing body and the link governor
