Mandy Monkcom returns to teach at the artsHUB again after her hugely successful ‘Pastel Portraits’ workshop back in February.
This beginner's oil painting course introduces students to a fundamental technique of working with oil paints. In this workshop you will be looking at the work of the vivacious Scottish Colourists for inspiration and to study technique. They were a group of Scottish painters, Samuel John Peploe, Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell, George Leslie Hunter and John Duncan Fergusson, and they were active in the early twentieth century. They all spent time in France and were influenced by French artists’ bold use of colour and free brushwork.

In preparation for the workshop, you would choose a Scottish Colourist painting you like, and then find a reference photograph of a similar subject to work from. You would then print them both out in colour and bring them with you to the workshop.
Being inspired by the colour palette and brushwork style of the Scottish Colourist painting, you would create your own artwork, using your photo as the reference image, using oil paints either on primed canvas or on oil painting paper.
