Mastering colour and light in oils (Still life) Suitable for all levels.
About this event
This workshop will be suitable for all levels, as there will be elements to take away for every degree of experience, and Catherine can tailor her instruction to suit your ability.
We will using a simple still life set up as the subject matter and be painting in oils using a small selection of colours. Catherine has extensively studied colour theory, and so we will initially cover the basics of hue, value and tone, before moving onto planning and mixing your colour scheme. Students will learn a systematic approach to painting the subject matter itself, which aims to simplify the alla prima (wet on wet) painting process so students each create a fresh and vibrant piece of work.
This process will be transferable to all subject matters, while we are using still life for ease, these techniques are equally applicable in portrait, landscape and animal paintings.
Materials needed:
Oil paper pad or panels - about A4 size
Selection of oil painting brushes. Hog or sable, real or synthetic, in a range of sizes.
Oil paints - Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red, Titanium white, Phthalo turquoise, Ultramarine Blue. The better the brand the better the pigmentation, personally I like Old Hollland, Michael Harding or Jacksons Professional ranges.
A portable or table top easel. I have several, so if you don’t have one let me know.
Odourless thinner & painting rags
