About this event
Damen und Herren
Oktoberfest is coming to The Crown at Chilton on 3rd, 4th and 5th October.
Bringing Bavarian vibes to Oxfordshire, we’ll be celebrating two of Germany’s finest exports with a distinctly British twist, with over thirty different beers, stouts, ciders and more to enjoy over three days...
No Oktoberfest is complete without a serious sausagefest, so Koch (that’s chef in German) Andy will be firing up a variety of imported sausages straight from the fatherland on his brand-new flame grill. What could possibly go wrong?
Expect Bratwurst, bockwurst, frankfurter, currywurst and much more. And giant pretzels, of course. And did we mention apple strudel?
Our Bavarian bonanza is completed with a soundtrack of the finest schlager and oompah loopah tuneage, straight outta Munich… maybe with some live music and other surprises too...
The fun takes place across three days, so you can pace yourselves slowly over the weekend, or go large in one fell swoop. It’s your call.
It’s not the ‘wurst' idea to reserve a table for this event, as it’s the most ambitious event we’ve done so far at The Crown, and we’ll also be celebrating the official opening of our brand-new street food kitchen that weekend as well. Why not get a table of friends together and come and join us?
Lederhosen or traditional German dirndl is encouraged, but not essential, and our team will be getting dressed up for you!
We can’t wait to see you for our first Oktoberfest.
Prost!
Team Crown
Dates & Times:
The Crown at Chilton Oktoberfest takes place:
Friday 3rd October from 4pm – late
Saturday 4th October from 12 noon-late
Sunday 5th October from 12 noon-close
On the Saturday only, tickets for our Oktoberfest are £25 per person + booking free in advance, available to purchase online now via our ticketing partner Eventbrite or directly at the bar at The Crown, and you will need one to join us on that day. If we have any tickets left for the Saturday, they will be available on the door for £30, and we will post availability on our social media.
On the Friday evening and Sunday, just rock up – the £25 bundle deal will be available at both, or you can pay as you go along – it’s up to you…
£25 tickets include:
- A commemorative glass stein to keep – choose from a 2 pint or one-pint handled stein or half pint neck craft glass
- Your choice of any pint or bottle of draught beer, cider or stout to get you started
- Your choice of any German hot dog from Andy’s kitchen, any way you like it
For pre-booked tables of 6-12 people, we’ll also be offering large sharing platters, featuring a selection of all varieties of sausages, traditionally garnished with fried onions, sauerkraut, red cabbage and gherkins, and served with giant pretzels - perfect for soaking up all that beer. Loaded fries and other slightly less German delights will also be available.
Good to know:
- The event will take place both inside and out, rain or shine, and we have contingency for the wurst case scenario (sorry.
- All beers will also be available as two pints, pints, half pints and third pints, also in paddles of three thirds.
- Vegetarian and gluten free versions will also be available, as well a selection of gluten-free beers.
- We advocate sensible drinking, and suggest moderate rather than excessive intake, particularly with the high strength beers!
- Don’t drink alcohol or having a break? No problem. There’ll be plenty of low and no alcohol beers available, lots of interesting soft drinks and more.
- Children are welcome at this event until 7pm, and we’ll be serving special food and treats for our younger guests during the day.
- No alcohol will be served to under 18s - we operate a Challenge 25 policy
Beer
While we’ll naturally have plenty of fine German beers available, we think our own beer is just as good, if not better, so we'll be bringing you a huge selection of British cask and craft beers, stouts and ciders too. In the spirit of fairness, we’ll then let you decide which beer is best by how much we sell over the weekend.
One of our horsebox bars will be selling German and German-inspired brews, while inside will be an all-English affair.
There’ll be a £25 Crown vouchers for both the best dressed Herr and Fräulein, plus two £10 vouchers for the best-dressed boy and girl under 14 (these will all be awarded at 7pm on the Saturday).
We’ll also be running a competition to guess how many pints in total we sell over the weekend. It’s £2 to enter, with £100 cash prize going to the person guessing the closest number of pints – either above or below. All proceeds from the competition will be donated to our nominated charity, Helen & Douglas House

Getting here and home:
We’re working with our regular private hire partner Rural Carriages, based in Chilton, who already provide us with our monthly Magic Roundabout shuttle service.
They will be operating their 18-seater minibus on Friday night and throughout the day and evening on the Saturday between Chilton, Upton and Blewbury. If you’re coming in a group, we encourage you to plan ahead and let us know your numbers and ideal timings as early as possible, so we can do our best to accommodate as many as possible. This service will be complimentary for ticket holders on a first come, first served basis.
If you’re visiting from further afield, and have pre-booked tickets, we can also provide transport to and from Didcot station for just £5 each way, subject to availability and minimum numbers.
Please email hello@thecrownatchilton.co.uk for more information, or to book in. Other destinations may be available on request and subject to demand.
Bus services also operate to and from The Crown, which is serviced by the X34 which contacts us with Didcot, Newbury and Wantage and beyond. The timetable can be found at www.oxfordbus.co.uk
