This tour covers over 300 years of trials, judgements and imprisonments. See the civil and criminal courts, holding cells and the 17th century dungeon. Hear how justice was handed down in the past.

The tour starts outside the main doors of Old Shire Hall on Northgate St, at 10am. Please aim to arrive promptly at 9.50am. The group will proceed to the lower floors so late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

Old Shire Hall is a historical building and this tour includes steep, uneven and narrow stairs and corridors. Some floors can be uneven or slippery. Therefore we do not consider this tour suitable for those with mobility difficulties or claustrophobia. Please wear sensible footwear.

This tour is for adults and is not suitable for children under the age of 12 (including carried infants).

Cancellation Policy:

  • Tickets cannot be refunded or returned.
  • Refunds will not be offered for non-attendance at an event.
  • Tickets are not transferable and accordingly may not be sold or passed to any third party
  • Free tickets can be cancelled at any time via Eventbrite.

We reserve the right to reschedule, postpone or cancel an event at any time.

In the unlikely event that we have to cancel your booking, we will offer you an alternative date where possible. If an alternative date is not possible, we will issue you a full refund for your ticket cost.

We cannot be held responsible for any other costs incurred to you due to the cancellation of an event.

Frequently asked questions

Where should we go to start the tour.

The tour guides will meet you outside the main doors for Old Shire Hall on Northgate Street (opposite house numbers 12-14). Please aim to arrive promptly 10 minutes before the tour start time. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the scheduled start time of the tour you will not be admitted.

What time should I arrive?

Please be at the doors to Old Shire Hall 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

Is the tour suitable for those with mobility issues?

We do not recommend this tour for those with mobility issues. The cells and dungeon are accessed by steep stairs that can be uneven and slippery. Our guides reserve the right to stop the tour if a person's safety is compromised.

Is this tour suitable for children?

The tour is for adults, but children over the age of 12 are welcome. All children must be supervised by an adult. Due to the historical nature of the building we cannot admit carried infants.

Can I make a group booking?

Our regular monthly tours are limited to 14 spaces. If you would like to book a tour for a group, please contact heritagelearning@warwickshire.gov.uk .

Can I take photographs?

I am a teacher. Can I bring a class to Old Shire Hall?
