Where should we go to start the tour.

Accepted Answer

The tour guides will meet you outside the main doors for Old Shire Hall on Northgate Street (opposite house numbers 12-14). Please aim to arrive promptly 10 minutes before the tour start time. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the scheduled start time of the tour you will not be admitted.

What time should I arrive?

Please be at the doors to Old Shire Hall 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

Question 3

Is the tour suitable for those with mobility issues?

Accepted Answer

We do not recommend this tour for those with mobility issues. The cells and dungeon are accessed by steep stairs that can be uneven and slippery. Our guides reserve the right to stop the tour if a person's safety is compromised.

Question 4

Is this tour suitable for children?

Accepted Answer

The tour is for adults, but children over the age of 12 are welcome. All children must be supervised by an adult. Due to the historical nature of the building we cannot admit carried infants.

Can I make a group booking?

Our regular monthly tours are limited to 14 spaces. If you would like to book a tour for a group, please contact heritagelearning@warwickshire.gov.uk .

Can I take photographs?

Accepted Answer

You are welcome to take photos of the building for personal use. If you share your photos on social media, please tag us in using Warwickshire Museum (Facebook), @OisintheDeer (Twitter) or @HeritageandCultureWarwickshire (Instagram).  Please ask our staff and guides before photographing them.

I am a teacher. Can I bring a class to Old Shire Hall?

Our team at Warwickshire Heritage Learning offer an immersive workshop for primary school groups, including a tour of the courts, cells and dungeons, and a re-enactment of a Victorian trial. Find out more at heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/heritagelearning.

Where can I find out more information about historical trials?

The County Record Office holds the minutes from the county's Quarter Sessions. Find out more on their website: heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/county-record-office. Some court records are not available for general access as they contain personal information.
