Event description

Description

This eventbrite is an event page for the stall-holders who have received an invitation from the organisers.

The Information Fair itself is a drop-in, open, welcoming and free event - no tickets or reservations are required and every single member of the community is welcome to swing by.

The 2017 Senior Persons Information Fair hosted by Jo Churchill MP, the Member of Parliament for Bury St Edmunds is taking place in the Apex on Friday 1st December 10:30-1:30. It is decisively not political. Rather, it is a community event geared towards combating rural loneliness, with the specific aim of providing information to older people. Ultimately it provides an opportunity for would-be service-users to meet charitable and public sector service-providers operating in the area. Although, as well as service-providers and groups, we are inviting groups who can offer one-off provision of information, such as advice around well-being, health, safety, crime (e.g. scam) prevention.

We invite you to represent your organisation and the services you offer, or communicate beneficial information. We will allocate each organisation or group a space in which to have a little display - posters, leaflets and any props to explain the organisation’s vision and activities, or for the provision of such information. In this space, one (or a few!) of the organisation's representatives can receive the fair-goers. It's also possible that this could become an opportunity to recruit more volunteers, as well as service-users. Naturally we will endeavour to make all the 'stalls' as interactive as possible. For example, we will have a 'tech corner' organised by Realise Futures and we hope to organise some roleplay and drama in service of scam prevention schemes.

Jo hosted something similar last year in Stowmarket, which was a huge success. The event in Bury is building on this success in order to connect even more people with services and activities that can increase their happiness, health and safety. Rural loneliness is a particular problem throughout Suffolk, and clearly not a recipe for a happy, healthy local atmosphere. Therefore, the event is very much in service of the community and clearly the more people that come, the better! As such, we are keen to achieve the same warm, comfortable, unintimidating atmosphere as last year to make the event approachable for the very people that will benefit most from it. We will have a 'cuppa' on offer (so kindly provided by Sodexo) with some cakey refreshments available too. Also, any input to help publicise the event in the community is most welcome.

Please arrive at 9:45/10:00am to set up your stall and so the organisers can welcome you properly.
