About this Event

The workforce of Great Britain is ageing. By 2030 more than a third of all workers will be aged 50 and over. In response, the UK government has enacted a number of policies to encourage people to remain in work for longer, however, there are concerns that policies made in Westminster do not take into account the challenges faced by the devolved nations.

The level and the rate of workforce ageing differs across the 4 nations of Great Britain, moreover, each of the constituent countries of GB faces specific challenges as a result of their industrial histories and unique geographies. A one-size-fits-all policy to meet the challenges and realise the opportunities of workforce ageing is unlikely to be successful, and therefore a better idea of the particular challenges faced by older workers, employers and policy makers in each of the devolved nations is needed. By doing this there will also be opportunities to share best practice and learn from innovations that are taking place elsewhere in GB.

This half-day conference will bring together leading researchers on older workers from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to share the experiences and responses to workforce ageing in each of their countries, we look forward to welcoming guests to the Pierhead building in Cardiff Bay on Tuesday 15th October at 12:00.

Gweithwyr hŷn ym Mhrydain Fawr: Safbwyntiau o’r cenhedloedd datganoledig.

Mae gweithlu Prydain Fawr yn heneiddio. Erbyn 2030 bydd mwy na thraean yr holl weithwyr yn 50 oed neu'n hŷn. Mewn ymateb, mae gan lywodraeth y DU nifer o bolisïau i annog pobl i aros mewn gwaith am gyfnod hirach, er hynny, mae pryderon nad yw polisïau a wnaed yn San Steffan yn ystyried yr heriau sy'n wynebu'r cenhedloedd datganoledig. Ar ben hynny, mae lefel a chyfradd heneiddio’r gweithlu yn wahanol ar draws 4 cenedl Prydain Fawr, hefyd, mae pob un o wledydd cyfansoddol Prydain Fawr yn wynebu heriau penodol o ganlyniad i’w hanesion diwydiannol a’u daearyddiaeth unigryw.

Mae'n annhebygol y bydd polisi un maint i bawb i gwrdd â'r heriau a gwireddu cyfleoedd heneiddio gweithlu yn llwyddiannus, ac felly mae angen gwell syniad o'r heriau penodol y mae gweithwyr hŷn, cyflogwyr a llunwyr polisi yn eu hwynebu ym mhob un o'r gwledydd datganoledig. Trwy wneud hyn bydd hefyd cyfleoedd i rannu arfer gorau a dysgu o ddatblygiadau arloesol sy'n digwydd mewn mannau eraill ym Mhrydain Fawr.

Bydd y gynhadledd hanner diwrnod hon yn dwyn ynghyd ymchwilwyr blaenllaw ar weithwyr hŷn o Gymru, yr Alban a Gogledd Iwerddon i rannu'r profiadau a'r ymatebion i weithlu sy'n heneiddio ym mhob un o'u gwledydd. Edrychwn ymlaen at groesawu gwesteion i adeilad Pierhead ym Mae Caerdydd ar ddydd Mawrth, 15fed o Hydref am 12:00.
