Olion Byw - Lucy Rivers and Dan Lawrence - combine fiddle, guitar, mandolin and voice, capturing the essence of traditional Welsh music and song and representing it in a way that is fresh and enlivening. They take influences from World music, Roots and Nu folk to create an intoxicating atmosphere – intricate yet simple, contemporary yet traditional.
Their fresh and exciting arrangements of traditional Welsh tunes and songs are interspersed with original compositions, hence their name: Olion Byw means Living Traces; rediscovering, reinventing…
Introduced by Lopa Kothari for Radio 3’s ‘World on 3’ as an emerging world talent, they have indeed played worldwide, from Kansas to West Bengal.
Support from Soundboard - Natalie Mason, Ebrahim Nazir and Dave Carroll. This multi-instrumental acoustic trio plays music which is entirely original and dazzlingly varied. Their songs and instrumentals feature guitar, violin, viola, oud, banjo, bass and accordion, bringing in influences from European, African and Celtic traditions; from lyrical ballads through gypsy jazz to delta blues.
