Welcome to Oliver McGowan Tier 1 Training!

Oliver McGowan was an 18-year-old young man with autism and a mild learning disability whose tragic, avoidable death exposed critical gaps—namely, systemic failures, poor communication, and a lack of understanding among professionals concerned with his care.

The Oliver McGowan Training was developed in response to this tragedy. It is a government-endorsed, mandatory training programme for health and social care professionals, now required under the Health and Care Act 2022 for those registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

Aimed at practitioners working with autistic people and individuals with learning disabilities, including social workers, health workers and those working in residential care homes

This training is accredited and recognised by the goverment, social work insitutions and the NHS
