Welcome to Autism Training Teir 2
Tier 2 of the Oliver McGowan mandatory training is a face-to-face, in-person learning experience designed for practitioners who have regular and direct contact with autistic people and individuals with learning disabilities. This tier builds on the foundation laid in Tier 1, delivering deeper knowledge, scenario-based learning, and practical skills to improve day-to-day interactions and decision-making.
Key features of Tier 2 include:
In-person delivery — lasting a full-day session.
Three trained facilitators, with at least one having lived experience (such as being autistic or having a learning disability), alongside trainers. This ensures authenticity, empathy, and real-world insight.
Interactive workshops and case-based discussions, allowing participants to apply the principles of person-centred support, communication adjustments, and respectful engagement in realistic contexts.
Focus on advanced topics, such as:
- Dealing with diagnostic overshadowing and safeguarding biases
- Tailoring reasonable adjustments in complex or high-risk environments
- Enhancing collaboration across services and professional boundaries
- Supporting self-advocacy and autonomy with dignity
Reflective practice and peer learning, encouraging participants to reflect on their own attitudes and share professional experiences to reinforce behavioural change.
