Description

As part of the St Peter's Hospice Open Garden weekend, we are very pleased to announce that Olivia Kirk, designer of the new Hospice gardens, will be offering two exclusive guided Tour & Talk sessions on Saturday, 7th September.

About Olivia Kirk

Olivia Kirk is an experienced landscape and garden designer who specialises in creating healing gardens. She was awarded an RHS Chelsea Gold medal in 2011 for her ‘Power of Nature’ Garden and her most recent garden at Chelsea for The WellChild Charity won a Silver Gilt. She is a regular tutor for The London College of Garden Design based in Kew and has recently lectured for Kew on the subject of low allergen gardening in the public domain.

Guided Tour & Talk Sessions

Olivia will show you around and share her insights on the four types of gardens she's created with a focus on low allergen planting.

The Courtyard Garden at St Peter’s Hospice is by far her largest undertaking to date. It features low allergen planting to ensure patients can enjoy the gardens without concern for hayfever.

The Sensory Garden provides a talking point, appealing to different senses; and even if you don’t know your plants well, it will be obvious which ones are to be sniffed, touched or simply to be enjoyed visually. There are plenty of benches to have a break and sit amongst the planting if a rest and a natter is needed!

The Therapy Garden is outside the Garden Rooms, a beautiful purpose built venue where one-to-one or group therapy, art therapy and music therapy sessions take place. The space is light and airy, providing a safe and comfortable feel to meet the needs of patients and their families' alike. The gardens surrounding these rooms evoke a cottage garden feel, perfect for a restful walk or a reassuring view.

Three small Winter Gardens were created as inside/outside gardens, literally bringing the outside into the building, all year around. These are gardens with mainly glass walls and open to the sky, allowing the outdoors to blend with the indoor environment that surrounds them.

To see these spaces for yourself and hear directly from Olivia about how she planned for and brought these spaces to life, book now for one of the two guided Talk & Tour sessions. There will be plenty of time to ask questions and get advice on creating your own healing gardens, while enjoying a tour of the new gardens at the Hospice. Spaces are limited. Entry to the Open Gardens on Saturday 7th September included in the purchase of a guided Tour & Talk ticket.

St Peter's Hospice Open Gardens Weekend

We are pleased to open our gardens to the public for the first time since the completion of our rebuild in November 2018. The gardens will be open from 10am - 3pm on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September, entry £3, children under 16 free. Every penny we raise helps us to provide vital services to people who need it right here across the greater Bristol area.
