Event description

Description

This one day course will give you not only the basics of traditional and online marketing for museums, but also provide you with practical tools and knowledge, and the opportunity explore employing a Modern Apprentice to help your business in the areas of digital marketing or IT.

Who is it for?

This course is for those who want to know about and carry out marketing for their organisation – whether you are a full time employee or volunteer, and whether or not you have ‘marketing’ in your remit or title. The course is really suited to those starting from scratch or who have a little experience in this area.

What will you learn?

Join Sixth Sense for the full low-down of online and offline basic marketing terminology and methods. They’ll help you to identify your market and understand your business environment, whether you’re planning to engage more with digital or dabble in it for the first time.

The day will help you to understand visitor behaviour, marketing segmentation, capturing customer information, diversifying your marketing channels and developing your marketing strategy – everything you’ll need for a grounding in marketing. We’ll then look at how to take what you’ve learnt and apply it to each museum location with the aim of generating revenue.

What will happen on the day?

The morning sessions will focus on knowing your market; covering everything from the basics of what marketing is up to segmenting your audiences and developing formal strategies. You’ll then move onto diversifying your marketing channels.

This will be a fairly comprehensive discussion, taking you through various marketing techniques and their effectiveness within the museums and arts sectors. We’ll aim to encourage you to think outside the box and consider new approaches to reaching your audiences.

After lunch, we’ll shift the focus to using what you’ve learnt to generate revenue. The interactive afternoon session will help piece the earlier theory units together in a way that can be applied to your specific museum location.

And what about those modern apprenticeships?

The course will give you the opportunity to explore whether employing a Modern Apprentice in either Digital Marketing or an IT role in your business would be beneficial. Modern Apprentices can be recruited either from existing or new staff, offering you the opportunity to bring in new skills and ideas to your organisation in a supported way.

For those that are interested, Sixth Sense will offer a tailored 1-2-1 session with all attending delegates organisations after the course has finished to explore the possibility of a Modern Apprenticeship in your museum, and provide further feedback and guidance on the learning from the course.
