On Chinese Ceramics: A Brief Introduction
Event Information
About this Event
At MP Chinese, we host a Chinese culture seminar every Thursday, where we delve into a different aspect of Chinese culture or history. If it's your first time joining us, then this seminar is completely FREE!
If you're a lover of Chinese porcelain or a pottery aficionado, then join us for this seminar entirely dedicated to the history behind Chinese ceramics and the most enduringly famous styles of Chinese ceramics.
In the first half of our seminar, we'll be focusing on the key dynasties that saw major developments in ceramic technology, most notably in the world of Chinese porcelain. We'll be taking a closer look at how these technologies evolved from the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD) right through to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
During the second half, we'll be examining some of the most famous styles of Chinese ceramic that have gained notoriety throughout both China and the world at large. In particular, we'll be taking a look at the five styles of ceramics that were pioneered by the Five Great Kilns of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), as well as qingbai ware and blue-and-white porcelain.
Alongside getting to appreciate some of the most gorgeous and significant pieces of ceramic work to have come out of China, you'll also have the opportunity to take part in our lively discussion periods and express your love of ceramics!
