Sustainability is at the heart of Alice’s practice.

The desire to take an ethical approach has driven a shift within her practice from using conventional art and textile materials into exploring found objects, gathered materials and natural processes.

Using her textiles skill set and techniques borrowed from basketry, she makes one-off surfaces and structures with the materials she finds, gathers and grows.

Plotting described Alice’s practice and how she uses her allotment as her focus, both for creative inspiration and as a source of materials.

She outlined the steps she took to investigate the potential of the site during the last few years, the types of objects and materials available to experiment with and some of the processes used to record the plot.

Alice told the story of the unfolding creative project and her deepening relationship with this little plot of land as well as some of the unconventional materials that she uses in her work.
