About this event
During this talk Debbie Lyddon will describe how the natural world inspires her work. She will explain the methods of recording her experience of the landscape she lives in and how that is evoked through materials and processes. She will show work that demonstrates how she interprets her surroundings in a multi-sensory way.
This talk will feature a PowerPoint slide show that contains photographs of her work, and sound and video clips from the environment that inspired the work.
The recording is not downloadable but will be available for viewing until at least 16 January, 2025 or one month after registration, which ever is later.

Debbie Lyddon is an artist and maker based in Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, UK. Her inspiration comes from being outside in the natural world, from walking, noticing and collecting. She makes mixed media cloths, sculptures, installations and drawings which originate from thoughts and memories that are a consequence of experiencing place and paying attention.
Cloth is at the centre of Debbie’s practice, and she enjoys the process of making and constructing with it. She combines traditional stitch techniques with non-traditional materials such as bitumen, salt and wax to make 2D and 3D works that evoke the sights, sounds and touch of coastal environments.
Here is some feedback we received after the talk:
Debbie Lyddon's talk was informative, clear, organised & very inspiring.

Excellent talk!
I have had a workshop with Debbie once before. It was in a February, a TSG weekend. We walked round the in the outside, bit chilly, listening to the sounds we could hear, and recording them in our sketchbooks!
I still have the work I did on that weekend.
As well as being inspirational she is always so generous with her knowledge.
A good evening.
Thank you Ann
Thanks for this fantastic talk; very inspirational. It was a wonderful, deep exploration of Debbie's practice and really brought her work to life for me. Also plenty of practical tips on experimenting with many different materials.
