About this event

In this talk Kim Thittichai will teach students to ‘learn through play’ and to ‘design by process’, as part of her teaching philosophy is that it is very important to learn how different products and media can be manipulated and layered. Only then can you start to create a piece of work. Developing a sense of play and experimenting with layers is a sure way of developing your own ideas and style of work.

Please note that this ticket is for the recording of the event on 7 September. Tickets for the live event are available here. The recording is not downloadable but will be available for viewing until at least 14 October, 2024.

    Spiral by Kim Thittichai

Kim Thittichai is the author of 4 books commissioned by Batsford: ‘Hot Textiles’, ‘Experimental Textiles’, ‘Layered Textiles’, and ‘Reclaimed Textiles’.

She has been writing and delivering various courses and workshops for the past 30 years, teaching regularly in the UK and Europe as well Australia, New Zealand and India. Teaching her students how to develop their own, original, ideas and textile practice is a passion, with the most popular course by far being Experimental Textiles. For Kim it is a great privilege to encourage learners, old and new, to flourish and gain in confidence.

With the experience of writing and creating her own courses and workshops over the years, she has been able to refine her teaching practice – helping students who wish to expand their knowledge of textiles processes, how to use them, and most important of all – how to play with, and layer up processes and techniques to create their own path and style of work.
