On Demand: THREAD TALKS: Polly Woolstone: From Sketchbook to Final Piece
Overview
Wherever Polly goes she takes her sketchbook along. She uses the notes, marks, and sketches made on her travels to inform her work.
This talk will describe the process of making her own sketchbooks, building a background to work on,and how she uses them to record her observations.
She will discuss how she then might develop and use the ideas to inform her textile and mixed media work.
"I try to transfer the energy that I create in my sketchbook to my finished pieces."
Please note that this ticket is for a recording of the live event on 3 December. Tickets for the live event are available here. You will be emailed access details to the recording by 17 December. The recording is not downloadable but will be available for viewing until at least 17 January, 2026.
Polly Woolstone studied at Canterbury College of Art and has taught Art and Textiles all her career. Now retired from full-time teaching, she works from her studio in Oxford.
Polly’s work reflects her travels – from landscapes in the UK and Ireland to many visits to India. She tries to express both physical and emotional journeys, sometimes incorporating poems and words that resonate.
Working in a range of media, her work combines a love of mark-making, texture and colour.
