Sara studied languages at Oxford University before training as a newspaper journalist and working on The Times as a parliamentary reporter. She has made quilts for most of her adult life and has been a member of the pan-European group Quilt Art for 22 years. In 2004 she introduced free-machine stitched text into her work and now uses the textile surface to comment on contemporary social or political issues, sometimes with a dash of humour. Another favourite subject is the nature of the stitch itself, from the viewpoint of the stitcher. She writes her own material.
